New ferry service to Macau

This ferry service between Hong Kong and Macau is not only new, but importantly, offers good value while providing comfort. I refer to Macau Dragon.

Currently a return ferry ticket between Hong Kong and Macau is at least HK$300 (US$40), which is even higher during the weekends. Major ferry service providers include TurboJet, First Ferry, and CotaiJet with the latter relatively new and offering slightly cheaper fares among the three.

As a new member joining the ranks, Macau Dragon’s weekday fare is priced at HK$88 (US$11, from HK to Macau) and MOP96 (US$11, from Macau to HK). That is at least 2/3 of the price of TurboJet or First Ferry.

Both TurboJet and First Ferry use Macau Maritime Ferry Terminal, the most common terminal used for HK-Macau travel. Macau Dragon and CotaiJet, on the other hand, use Macau Taipa Temporary Ferry Terminal, right next to the Macau International Airport on Taipa Island. But rest assured that there is hardly any problem travelling to the town centre from there – after all, Macau is so small a place.

Here’s a tip from a friend of mine who has used the temporary pier: “Just hop on any shuttle bus to those luxury hotels. There are plenty of them. They take you to almost all the major spots in the city.” And he, having ridden on a Macau Dragon boat, has some good words about  its seats, saying they are new and comfortable, with enough leg room.

Macau Dragon uses Hong Kong Macau Ferry Terminal in Sheung Wan,  same as TurboJet and CotaiJet.
